Tied at two in the top of the 8th, with runners on first and second and nobody out, the Cleveland Indians were poised to take the lead in over the New York Giants in Game 1 of the 1954 World Series. Cleveland OF Vic Wertz hit a deep flyball into centerfield where Giants CF Willie Mays made a miraculous over-the-shoulder catch forcing the runners back and keeping the game alive. The Giants would eventually win 5-2 in extras and sweep the Fall Classic.
